Energy medicine is the practice of optimizing and enhancing energy flow and balance in the body in a way that provides the conditions for improving and maintaining health and wellness.
David Feinstein, PhD defines it as follows;
“Energy Medicine at its core foundation focuses on the energy fields of the body that organize and control the growth and repair of cells, tissues and organs. Changing impaired energy patterns may be the most efficient, least invasive way to improve the vitality of organs, cells and psyche…”
Energy healing methods allow us to access the subtle energy of the body and mind, and work to enhance and balance the flow of the subtle energy, or Qi.
At Dr. Mike Soo Energy Healing, we practice energy medicine using the several modalities that we have trained in over the years, including;
- Acupuncture and acupressure
- Holy Fire Reiki
- Medical Qigong
- Jin Shin Jyutsu
- Quantum touch
What direction will energy medicine take in the future?
In 50 years, we will look back on The new paradigm of energy healing as one of the most important developments of the 21st century, and one that is obviously much needed. Energy medicine is on the frontier, but it also forms a bridge between eastern and western healing philosophy and method. In the coming years and decades, I believe it will combine with conventional modern healing methods to create a better, more versatile and holistic system of understanding and dealing with medical and health issues.
There is also a paradigm shift in the new model. With better understanding of the power of consciousness, thoughts and intentions, it is beginning to be understood how thoughts and actions profoundly affect our health and well being. As we become more ready to take a greater responsibility for our own energy and health, through energy medicine we can become empowered to play a greater role in the creation of health and wellness for ourselves. It can also be a path to greater self-discovery and a deeper sense of purpose.
Neuroscience is the new Frontier of health and consciousness.
Neuroscience is now showing that not only is the brain and nervous system programming is changeable or “plastic”, but that practices such as meditation can enhance positive states of being such as compassion and empathy, and this correlates with the increase of neural activity in various brain centers and in the increase of specific brain wave patterns.
The placebo effect has long been known about. Energy medicine is much more able to understand, appreciate and take advantage of the self-healing power of the body and mind. The conventional medicine is intervention based, and the paradigm is that the doctor and the medical system is what fixes you, or heals you. In energy medicine, the patient’s body and energy have the capacity to do most of the healing, and the energy medicine practitioner supports this process.
This is an exciting time in which human consciousness is waking up more to its own potential to influence and create our future. With great power comes great responsibility. We can and must take better care of our, our planet, our families and of ourselves. Energy medicine is one of the ways we can empower ourselves to make the changes that we need to shape a better future.
What is Energy?
Scientifically, everything in the universe is energy, as Einstein’s famous equation implies.
From solid rock to radio waves, energy exists at different vibrational frequencies and densities. How did this come about? According to the Big Bang Theory, the universe originated from an infinitely small, infinitely hot and infinitely dense point or singularity. This singularity expanded and created the solar systems and galaxies that make up our universe. Therefore, not only is everything in the universe made of energy, everything in the universe comes from the same source.
Humankind is a part of the universe, and we are in a unique position to understand and better harness this energy for health, personal growth and realization of our potential.
What is Qi?
In energy healing, we think of energy as “Life force energy” or Qi. It is the energy that animates us and all living things. The elements of the universe are made up of Qi, and our bodies utilize Qi force to organize the elements and body functions.
The term “Qi”comes from Chinese medicine and also means “life force energy”. Qi is central in the Chinese medicine system that dates back thousands of years. The sages of China understood that Qi circulates through subtle channels in the body known as meridians. The key principle of health in this system is that when the meridians are open and the Qi is abundant, then the Qi flows smoothly and the body and mind tend to be healthy and positive. When the Qi flow becomes blocked or stagnant, we have discomfort, dis-ease and the harmonious functions of the body and mind become impaired. The symptoms show up in order to tell us that the Qi flow is impaired often long before abnormalities will show up on western medical tests. Therefore, Energy medicine can be a much more preventative medical system than western allopathic medicine, which is based on detection and intervention, rather than prevention.
In acupuncture, needles are used to stimulate specific points on these energy meridians to balance the flow of qi and open up subtle blockages. Herbs are also used to build and balance qi in the body. Acupuncture is an ancient and sophisticated system of energy medicine that has its roots in ancient Chinese culture.
Qigong and medical qigong are also included within Chinese medicine, but can be practiced without needles! QiGong literally means to work with energy or to cultivate energy. As the practice of sages, the purpose is to increase health/vitality, love, wisdom and harmony. In medical qigong, Qi is used to help achieve health and wellness in the body and mind.
